Following Raymond Briggs’ passing, The Enchanted Cinema pay tribute to the life of this incredible illustrator by celebrating the screening of his seminal children’s book The Snowman, the animated film of which was first shown on 26th December 1982.
Our fun and interactive event, featuring contributions from your good elves – sorry, selves – starts with a vocal warm-up, preparing the chorister within for the unforgettable Walking in the Air sequence. The Enchanted Cinema performers then ask for help with sound for different images seen in the film including an owl, a toothbrush, a whale, the sea, a musical box, a running tap, feet jumping through the snow, and a tearaway motorbike, using FX brought in by you or using your voice.
The 30-minute workshop is followed by Dianne Jackson’s magical animation (also 30 minutes) originally screened 40 years ago, and audiences are invited to meet the performers and even try out their instruments after the show. You’re also welcome to leaf through a copy of the children’s book which will be on display, as well as some of Raymond’s early sketches for the book.
The Enchanted Cinema are two Orff-trained musicians Gareth & Kieron, who create fun and interactive participatory events to a century of beautiful hand-crafted animation.
