The perfect antidote to a rainy day

I read books to my son every single day. It is one of our favourite things to do together, and I sincerely hope that as he grows older, his love for reading will only strengthen. After all, it is not just great for language skills and development, it is also wonderful for imagination play.

If you feel like you need to step up your reading game though, why not take a visit to the [Link http://www.discover.org.uk/ Discover Story Centre]. Located in Stratford, the story centre is the first of its kind in the UK. It is aimed at children aged 0-11, and their families. Their aim is to create a love of language, literature and stories.

The centre comprises of Story World and Story Garden. They are both creative play spaces designed to inspire children’s curiosity and imagination. There are regularly changing interactive exhibitions, as well as visits from authors, illustrators, poets, musicians, artists and storytellers who run workshops.

A day pass to the story centre will give you access to Story World and Story Garden. Story World is two floors of stories and play, where children can climb, crawl and explore trees, ships, hollows, castles and other imaginative areas. It is like a beautiful and colourful play centre. There are also spaces to curl up and read.

The Story Garden is more of a play area where children can slide, climb on a spaceship and other climbing areas and also play with giant musical instruments.

If you wanted to enhance your visit, you can also book the exhibitions and workshops ahead of time. The current exhibition that is running until January 2019, is called 'A World Inside a Book: Gruffalos, Dragons and Other Creatures. Children can take a trip into the 3-D technicolour world of the best-loved children’s author, Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler. See [LInk http://www.discover.org.uk/exhibitions/ here] to find out more information on this and to book online.

Other events that happen at the Story Centre include storytelling sessions for 0-3-year-olds, group animation projects and jazz for toddlers. These can all be booked on top of your day pass, so you can find out more info about days/times of these events and book online [Link http://www.discover.org.uk/all-events/ here].

Another wonderful activity that your kids can participate in at the Discover Story Centre is the Mighty Mega Club. It is a free Saturday club for disabled children and their families. Find out more information on this [Link http://www.discover.org.uk/mighty-mega/ here].

If you are hungry on your visit then you can go to the beautiful on-site cafe. They serve a range of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, salads, snacks, ice creams and freshly baked cakes. You are also welcome to bring your own food to enjoy, you just can't eat it in the cafe.
