If your child is between the ages of 2.5 and 4.5 years old and English is their first language, UCL invites you to participate in their research study.

A group of researchers at University College London are studying language development in children and would like to invite you and your child to participate in a study.

Learning words is an important part of every child’s development. The way in which children learn new words is a fascinating problem for psychologists: How do children link words to their meaning? Is there anything special about the way we communicate with children that helps them learn new words?

This study is looking at whether specific cues in the way we speak, and specifically, how we say certain words (e.g. slowly or fast) and gestures we do while speaking, can help children learn new words better.

The study involves two or three short video calls (10 minutes) between the researcher and you and your child, where your child is asked to do a fun task. It is designed to be an enjoyable activity! You can do this from the comfort of your own home at a time when it is convenient for you!

To thank you for your participation, you will receive a £10 Amazon gift voucher!

Please contact researchers directly to participate: [email protected]

If your child is between the ages of 2.5 and 4.5 years with English as their first language and you are interested in participating or have any questions, please contact the researchers directly by email: [email protected]
