Often the thought of heading to a cafe with their young brood in tow is enough to scare any mum. Images of spilt coffees and crying bored toddlers may pop up in their heads.

However, times are changing and many cafes are now becoming more accessible and family friendly for parents with young children, offering pram access, a welcoming atmosphere and sometimes even a play area. They are also great places to arrange a catch up with mothers group friends.

We've researched and found some of London's best and most family friendly cafes for you to try out with your children.



1. Bertie and Boo

Bertie and Boo's Family Coffee Shop is a fantastic place to enjoy a tasty cake and refreshing drink with your children. Relax on the sofas or out on the terrace whilst the kids can enjoy playing on the vintage car. Bertie and Boo are also home to the exciting Adventure Island , a wondrous soft play area for children aged 0-6 years.

2. Bear and Wolf

Bear and Wolf offers a delicious menu , plus healthy snacks for the kids. The cafe is relaxed with room for prams and there's also a play area for the kids with plenty of toys and space for them to enjoy.

3. Little Highness Play Cafe
Location: Highbury

Little Highness Play Cafe is the ideal place for parents and carers with little ones. Kids can enjoy the soft play area and parents can relax and enjoy the delicious homemade food available to purchase. There's also jigsaws and books for little ones to play with too.

4. Gracelands Cafe
Location: Kendal Green

This family-run cafe in Kendal Green is a great spot for parents with young children. The menu serves a delicious selection of food and drink, as well as a lovely children's menu, plus there's lots of toys and books to keep busy little people happy too.

5. Lido Cafe and Bar

This cafe offers an idyllic location to sit and relax at, with views over The Serpentine and a large alfresco seating area for those sunny days. The menu offers an array of fresh delicious food, drinks and snacks and is located near the south side of the Serpentine. The facilities there include toilets, a baby changing unit and high chairs. Parents can relax in the outdoor dining area whilst the kids can enjoy playing in the outdoor space.

6. Polka Theatre Cafe

Even if you're not visiting the Polka Theatre, its cute cafe is worth a visit with your little ones. There's a selection of healthy food on offer, being made fresh daily. There's plenty to entertain the kids too, such as a big display of teddies, a book corner and a play area.
